Reach Out and Read is a national literacy program that makes early literacy a part of pediatric primary care. Through PCC’s Reach Out and Read program, every child from 6 months to 5 years of age receives a new developmentally appropriate book at each well-child check-up.
Parents are encouraged by their health care providers to read with their children and to become reading advocates. When available, Reach Out and Read volunteers read to children waiting for their appointments.
During 2016, 6,383 books were given to children at well-child visits through PCC’s Reach Out and Read program.
