PCC recommends comprehensive prenatal care that begins in the first trimester of pregnancy. Included in regular prenatal care are routine ultrasounds. An ultrasound is usually performed around 20-22 weeks gestation to take a closer look at your developing baby. These are most often performed at the radiology department of West Suburban Medical Center, Westlake Hospital, or Norwegian American Hospital. We also refer patients with complex issues to these specialty departments.
Sometimes, your provider might recommend an early ultrasound to determine your due date. These ultrasounds are most accurate when completed early in pregnancy. Early ultrasounds can be performed directly with a PCC provider at our Ultrasound Clinic. Our providers are family medicine physicians who have completed advanced training in the care of pregnant patients.
We also can provide antenatal testing for higher risk patients that require more monitoring. This consists of ultrasounds for fluid level, placental location, and baby position as well as Nonstress Testing of the baby. Additionally we offer pre-operative evaluation for patients that may require a D&C secondary to early pregnancy loss. Referrals from a PCC provider are required.
